PHYSICAL PREPARATION DURING THE QUARANTINE |
In January 2020, together with a group of students, we were walking in the corridor of the C building at 5:40 in the morning, to start classes in the swiming course. Starting the day like this was challenging, but all of us coincided that on Tuesdays and Thursday’s energy stayed high and the rest of the day was faced with a different attitude.
I am Alby Aguilar, with a degree in Physical Education and Sports, teacher of the Sports courses and in charge of the Co-Curricular Sports Unit at UVG. Every day, with my students we faced a physical motor challenge in each class and now we do it helped by digital platforms. Starting on March 16 we didn’t stop moving, identifying the importance of staying in movement while in confinement, we duplicated efforts so that our academic sports classes and the sports clubs continued their programs at home. Virtual classes for the whole team of club trainers for Basketball, Voleyball, Football, Table Tennis, Chess and Swimming continued their activities through virtual meets from the platforms provided by the institution.
The change meant several challenges, at the beginning the provided platform allowed us to visualize nine students at a time, so that we couldn’t observe the executions of the students in each activity, and make the appropriate correction. Another challenge was adapting activities to the individual needs of the students, the space provided and finally the use of alternative means to carry out each training. Classes became programs to maintain the physical condition of its members, however, having this process in a guided and systematic manner allowed the program to continue successfully.
Keeping the UVG community active is our commitment, Covid-19 has affected many people, we are conscious that it is a very active virus for persons of every age with certain underlying ailments, among them obesity, diabetes mellitus type 2, cardiac affections, etc. Therefore, promoting physical activities for health reasons through our programs was a priority. The UVG community has access to more than 14 weekly classes that could be done at home to achieve the physical condition recommended by the World Health Organization (OMS).
Experiences have been multiple, for the trainers as well as for the students, who continue this modality from home and who every day had access to guided programs and classes. For the trainers it is a motivation to exercise from home. Now we added a competitive objective with the Virtual Marathon, all the sports courses and sports clubs are getting ready to participate in it.

TRAINING DURING A QUARANTINE |

UVG Volleyball Selection.
To tell the truth, training on line with the volleyball team has had very good times in terms of physical preparation for athletes of this sport. The trainer has taken care of focusing us in physical strengthening, especially in what is used more frequently when playing volleyball. This seems excellent to me because we not only have to play but it also requires physical strengthening to be able to achieve a better performance.

My experience with trainer Alex has been incredible, I began in June when I trained three times a week; at the beginning of the second semester I continued to train, only twice a week. I have noticed changes in my body, in my routines, in the way I feed myself and how I take care of myself in general, so that I feel that these training sessions have been of great benefit in my life. Alex is always watching out of us, he takes care of us and advises us in case we have a type of lesion, he motivates us and propels us to go further and to be improving constantly, he really is a great trainer. I am very grateful to be part of this Club and the care that Alex gives to all of us. I wish to continue actively involved in the training and I´m looking forward to continue at UVG when we return.

Training on line has been a challenge, but also a respite. To continue having time regularly to work on my physical and technical conditions has been key to better handling and to reduce the academic stress characteristic of this season.

Training on line has been a different experience, but it has also been demanding and fun. In my opinion, the routines combine physical effort with football technique. It is a good way to distract ourselves and at the same time maintain the necessary condition for the sport.
